"Helping Heal Children’s Lives Together"

Hello!

My name is Mireya Arroyo, also known as Blue, and I am the founder of Blue's Little Helpers Foundation. I've always had the desire and vision to help out the community but I wasn't really sure how or where. It wasn't until my nephew, Jeremias Carrera, was born. Upon delivery, Jeremias unfortunately presented multiple congenital anomalies resulting in having agenesis of the corpus callosum, chronic lung disease, and a seizure disorder. All of which, contributed to the need of having a tracheostomy (a medical procedure in which an opening in the neck is created below the vocal cords to allow a tube to be inserted into a person's windpipe). He is dependent on medical equipment to not only provide him oxygen in order to breath, he also depends on it to have the ability to eat.

This life-threatening condition, without proper care, can sadly result in him losing his life. Due to Jeremias' illness, he qualifies for home nursing in palliative care. He is dependent not only on a specialized medically trained nurse, he also requires family members to be trained in order to be with him at all hours of the day to ensure his safety.  Due to these circumstances, this leaves his family with minimal ability to partake in family activities and work.

Having to care for a loved one who is in poor health is physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially difficult. Not only does his family pay for common daily expenses, they also have to worry about paying for ongoing medical expenses which turn out to be quite costly; medical bills, supplements, equipment, supplies, etc.

The lives of parents, like Jeremias', are very different from parents lives whom have healthy children. A normal day for parent with healthy children can be exhausting and frustrating, however, parent's to children with health issues and disabilities are unimaginably much harder. Not only is it financially hard for these parents, it also affects their mental health.

A parent should not have to live their life in fear everyday worrying about whether or not their child will live to see another day, if their kiss goodnight is the last one, or if they'll walk into a room only to find their baby cold to the touch and without a beating heart.

Unfortunately there are many children around the world with life threatening medical conditions. Jeremias is my reason why I want to help other families with their hardships. To lend a helping hand, to let parents know there are other parents who can relate and understand what they are going through and most importantly, they have a community that they can turn to for support!

I strongly agree together we can all help make a positive difference for these families in need! We can be their strength, their ray of sunshine on a stormy day, or even their shoulder to cry on.

So let's all come together and help out in any way we can! Monetary donations, toys, clothes, food, transportation, words of comfort, the list can go on and on.

Anything is greatly appreciated!! And from the bottom of my heart, thank you very much for not only taking the time to visit my website, but to also take the time to read my story!
